If you adopt
a new dog, you want to start obedience training right
away, no matter what the age of the dog. This is
important to avoid major problems later that will be
difficult
or impossible to correct. It also helps to establish
the proper family dynamic for a lifetime of peaceful
coexistence. The only time you want to delay obedience
class is
in the case of a small puppy or a dog with recent
vaccinations. You want to make sure that a puppy has
completed its
entire vaccination series prior to class to prevent
illness. I strongly recommend to wait until at least
12 weeks
old and 3 rounds of vaccines. An older dog needs
to have their vaccines on board for at least a couple
weeks. Check with your vet for a recommended range
depending on vaccine history and health of your animal.
