The white cat just passed away this weekend at 20 years 6 months. Luke is missing his friend and all the leftover cat food! The black cat is not enjoying the extra attention! Photo: Luke and his kitty friends.

September 15, 2006 Luke pretends that he's "really not that interested" in the cat food...

[Luke] continues to progress in training and is a pretty good boy in the house--very well housetrained now. We are still working on socializing and tempering his protective tendencies at home. He wants to be friendly with new people but he is a bit overwhelming. We go slow from a sit stay, but man is it hard to stay composed when 10 children are running through the back yard at dusk...screaming!!

Photos: Luke wishing he could chase the kids too!

Pretty boy!

Luke's training has progressed well. We had the choice of repeating intermediate obedience or moving on to an advanced class at the end of this session. I chose to repeat intermediate just to get a bit more solid and because we are going away for a few weeks and will miss several classes. The trainers were sure that Luke would be into advanced class this fall and on his way to at least a CGC certificate. They are so pleased with his progress and his trainability. He is still a goofy spaz but maturity will tone that down...

Luke has been holding at 62 pounds now that his health is improving. He will not be a huge dog and that is fine by me. We get many compliments on how handsome he is. Thanks again for all you do.

We adore this goofy boy!! He has come along well in the 4 1/2 months since adoption. He has grown into a very handsome fellow. His training is also coming along. He is enrolled in his first group class having graduated from private lessons only. His social skills are much improved!! Cats can walk under his nose, eat near him and he will not pester them while we are watching. He will try to play with them which still does not go over well with the cats. They prefer him crated!

We are so thankful for the opportunity to have this wonderful dog as a part of our family.

Just a quick note to let you know that Luke is doing very well in his new home. He still has a lot of growing up to do, but is a good boy (most of the time!) He loves his ball and his chew bones! Is a good boy with the kids, and likes the cats who do not care for him.

Happy Holidays to all of you!! Luke thinks snow is the greatest!! Too bad it has all melted. He met my oldest for the first time and has handled the holiday insanity quite well. My oldest who has grown up with GSDs has pronounced that Luke is a good dog and is happy to see the family with another GSD.

He is doing well, being a teenager!! He has bonded with the family well and has learned his name. He would really like it if the cats would play with him but they do not think he is much fun. Training is progressing. He needs lots more socializing to get beyond being shy with people and hysterical when meeting other dogs. We are slowly working on this and have had several successful dog park play times.

He is getting more playful with toys and balls [and] runs like a crazy dog through the house skidding through corners at least once a day [while] goofing off with a toy or chew bone. The cats, however, are still ticked off and need to be kept away from the dog. He thinks they are great. The feeling is not mutual!

October 6, 2005
Luke is doing very well. He has bonded quickly with the family and is a love bug. House training is progressing with only occasional mistakes, mainly when he is over excited or stressed, and only a few times since arriving. He has seen my local veterinarian and is almost 55 lbs.

October 1, 2005
Messing with the cats is still a mighty strong temptation! He has had his nose boxed a number of times. The clever boy got out of his crate a few days ago while left alone and did not do too much damage, only a few select delicacies were extracted from the trash in the kitchen.

September 27, 2005
Luke continues to be a good boy. He has gotten much more comfortable with us, he has actually alarm barked a few times protecting his domain. He REALLY wants to be a house dog. He wants to go right back in after going potty, and checks out all the driveways on our walks to see if it might be home.

He is very easy in the house and has quickly become careful and respectful of the cats, better than my previous dogs! I am quite sure he will become more confident with more exposure to new situations, a bit of obedience training and become a solid good dog. He is excellent with the children and is just a completely charming young dog. Thank you for your work and for allowing us to adopt this dog.

September 19, 2005
He has fit in very well and we all love him. My old cat is angry and we have to keep them apart. The younger cat has not been too bothered. I will keep you posted.

A special thank you goes out to Damon's sponsors: Nicolle & Mike White in memory of Taz, who we loved and adored. Amy Goode in memory of Nelke and Hannah.

Adopted September 2005

Damon was a 6 month old, neutered, male, black/tan German Shepherd Dog. This little guy was a bundle of pretty pup. He was a sweet little man who liked to cuddle and kiss and would love a home that can appreciate a German Shepherd pup. He wanted lots of toys and puppy food, an obedience class or two to be the best fuzzy best friend you could ask for.
