It seems Delilah is camera shy.
She runs everytime I get [the camera] out. We are having tons of
fun now that the fence
is finished and [Delilah] is free to run with Sax. She has been
sleeping upstairs under the bed with Sax also for a couple weeks. Photos: Sax & Delilah

Just wanted to drop you a line
and tell you everything is great here. Delilah seems very happy with
her new home
and she and Sax have really bonded. She still barks at the cat
sometimes, but her Sax and the cat were all under the bed last night
hanging
out for a little while and she left the cat alone. She is a joy
to have around. She makes things very exciting around here. She is
also
very smart and loveable. We love her dearly.
Would you like to be a sponsor?

Delilah was a young, black/tan female-spayed. She was very playful and sweet. She was under 2 years old, if not under 1 year old. Delilah was found to be heartworm positive and was treated.
Delilah Rescue Update (March 30, 2005): Delilah is as happy as ever. She sailed through her treatment without any signs of complications. Her bloodwork has been negative and we await one more return check for her to be entirely cleared. This young pup is the life of the party, and we are happy we could make sure her health would be good to keep up with her personality! She is a bundle of hugs and kisses and can't wait for a home to keep up with her. Heartworm treatment isn't cheap and if you would like to help clear her veterinary bill so that when she finds a home, we aren't still paying on her treatment, please consider a donation towards her veterinary bills. Thank you to all of her supporters and friends. Heartworm positive dogs often do not stand a chance in shelters and pounds due to the expense and length of their treatment. We are happy that these two dogs have a second chance at life, even though the expense is a real barrier, it is because of good hearted contributors and friends that we are able to save these dogs and not kill them due to monetary concerns when the treatment is totally effective and they have a prognosis of a normal life. Delilah and Stormy thank you for saving their hearts and their lives. Now they just await clearance and a new life in loving homes.
Delilah Rescue Update (March 2, 2005): Delilah has completed her series of two heartworm treatment injections and is resting at home. Its hard to be sick with heartworm when you are just a puppy, because she will now require a month of crate rest and leashed potty time only. Not much room for burning energy!
Right now she is tired and feeling a little down from her treatment, but at the end of the week, she should be feeling much better. She had a negative antigen test at the Humane Society from which she came, when we tested her a second time for a different program, we were extremely surprised at a positive result.
It takes at least 6 months from inoculation (from a mosquito) for the dog's body to build up enough antigen to produce a positive heartworm test. Since she is still very young, she had to have contracted the heartworm at a very young age. So, her previous owners must have never provided her with the needed heartworm prevention.
It is so easy and not expensive to prevent such a horrible disease. Her chest X-ray shows minimal vessel swelling, so she will hopefully recover fully without scar tissue to the heart and have a totally normal prognosis for life. Her blood work was also normal.
Her expenses now exceed $350 for something that could have been prevented with an $8-10 pill.
Delilah hopes for a loving home at the completion of her treatment and put this unfortunate start to her life in the past. Please consider helping with some of her expenses and we thank you for your continued support of homeless pets.
