Malachi

Adopted January 2008

October 2007 Update:

Malachi is doing wonderfully and has his massive tail back!!! He even had to have his food cut back to normal rations due to his weight being back to normal and headed towards comfortably well nourished! He is a loving, sweet boy and can't wait to have a home of his own who will love him the rest of his life. He runs out every morning and gets his snuggle in first before he potties. He generally keeps to himself, even with the other dogs about. He has done very well. As a younger man he got a little ornery with the young males, but just ignores them now.

We think he'd love a home of his own or maybe another calm female, just because we think he and another young dog would get frustrated with each other. The young dog would want to play and he would want to be left alone. He doesn't mind them, he just doesn't engage. He used to chase kitties, but we haven't seen too much interest here now, but we do keep it in mind, so we are unsure as to how to mark him for kitty cats. A lot changes in 4 years from young male dog to older male! If you have a soft place in the living room and cuddles to spare, consider a sweetheart gentleman for your new companion and apply for Malachi.

June 2007

The hardest thing that rescuers have to do is pass their kids onto other human beings to care for after rehabilitating them from previous situations. The worst nightmare is when the dog returns home in worse condition.

Malachi was a huge and strong boy that was full of life when he was adopted over 3 yrs ago (see 2004 photos). Despite 2 veterinary letters of recommendation, and very positive follow up communication, we received a phone call from a pound.

We drove over an hour to pick up our furkid that was spared from death only because his AVID microchip linked him back to us. If we had seen him on a random visit to the pound, we never would have guessed who he was. Dirty, skinny, and hairless, our poor guy was pathetic after being picked up at a large retailer's dumpster.

The good news is that after 2 weeks of TLC from his friendly primary care veterinarian and home snuggles, he has healthy skin, peach fuzz growing back all over him, and weight gain. He is in great spirits and still very snuggly and loving. We are all just glad he is home. He still has several baths and a lot of home cooking needed until he gets back to the bushy fuzzball that he once was.

Malichi is now a senior citizen and would love a home committed to caring for and loving him, after he is done healing. If you think your home has room for a nice guy, let us know, and we will be happy to discuss with you when he will be ready to go to his forever home. He would probably do best as an only dog, but has done fine around our crew. If you would consider our poor boy, fill out an application for Malachi.
