Response to March-April 2002 Question
Why do you like German Shepherd Dogs?

I like GSDs because...

  1. They are beautiful, loyal and intelligent.

  2. Initially, it started with the movie K9. Jerry Lee was everything I wanted in a dog - courage, attitude and intelligence (smarter than his handler). After that I couldn't get enough of all those traits and their looks. Owning my first GSD I love all of the above plus his loyalty, willingness to learn, willingness to please and his activity level. Who could ask for a more perfect dog?

  3. I believe the GSD is the perfect breed. They are the only breed of dog that can do every job or sport intended for other breeds. They are the all-terrain vehicle of the dog world.

  4. I couldn't have asked for a more loyal friend, surrogate mother, personal trainer and coach than my GSD. She had her professional distance - no sleeping in human bedrooms, but when you had your bike, she scrambled at the ready. I'll never forget that, sometimes gruff, often jumpy, mix of fur and friendship.

  5. The German Shepherd Dog is an intelligent and beautiful dog. I rescued my first German Shepherd which was abandoned and malnourished. He was a long-haired dark German Shepherd. I extended my hand for him to smell and he licked it. My daughter was two years old at the time and they bonded wonderfully and were inseparable. He loved to run and catch the ball. He was beautiful to watch when he was in motion. He was a wonderful watchdog which was very important because my husband was in the Navy and out at sea on a ship at the time. He was the perfect dog for my family and well loved. I am now hooked on this breed.

  6. I've been with German Shepherds since Vietnam. From the start I was impressed with the breed's courage and dependability. I was even more impressed, during my second tour, when a German Shepherd saved my life. When I came home, it wasn't long before I bought my first Shepherd. Then, before I knew it I had three of these wonderful dogs. Several years ago, I fell through the ice of my farm pond and my dog "Bear" came out after me. One moment, I thought that I wasn't going to make it out and the next moment Bear was by my side. Bear died two years ago and I still can't think of him without a lot of pride and perhaps a catch in my chest. I only know that I'll have a German Shepherd for the rest of my life.
