Central Illinois German Shepherd Dog Rescue

Alumni of 2005

The following are dogs that were adopted from the Central Illinois German Shepherd Dog Rescue in 2005.

Sable Adopted March 19, 2005

While in rescue: Sable was a 9 month old, sable, spayed female German Shepherd Dog. This sweet pup was just too much to handle in her family of a busy mom and multiple little humans. Sable was a baby herself and entertained herself by stealing food and chewing stuff up while mom was taking care of the human babies. Sable needed a home where she could get attention herself. And, like any dog, also needed to go to obedience class and have playmates. She was excellent with her young human friends at home and seemed to like her new dog friends.

Clyde (renamed Zues) — Adopted March 12, 2005

While in rescue: Clyde was a red sable, 12 week old, male, German Shepherd Dog puppy. Bred by a backyard breeder these pups (Bonnie and Clyde) were not sold out of the litter in time and were deemed "too old" and turned out to run the streets of their small town. These two little ones were out all by themselves and caught by a good rescuer who could get them into the safety of a rescue to find a new home, even at the elderly age of 12 weeks! Located in Illinois' puppy-mill-central, these little ones were given a chance at a good life thanks to the hard work of a dedicated rescue volunteer working in the heart of canine terror.

Rocky Adopted February 25, 2005

While in rescue: Rocky was a huge boy. He was found as a stray by a Good Samaritan animal rescuer. She contacted purebred rescue for help in finding him a home. Rocky was a very tall male with a thick, beautiful, very dark, sable coat coat. He came in a little scared, but just blossomed into a big puppy. He appeared to be between a year and a year and half old. He was slightly thin, and seemed to have been an outdoor dog, but had behaved beautifully inside (keeping in mind he was a very boisterous puppy). He was seeking an experienced German Shepherd home that would do obedience training and engage in a lot of puppy play.

Kermit Adopted February 15, 2005

While in rescue: Kermit was a neutered fawn/black Boxer/German Shepherd mix that was born (7/29/03). He was the highest energy of the four pups born to Zoe. He loved his doggy toys and running around. He liked to play "keep away" with his toys, but could always be enticed back for a doggy treat. He was looking for an active family that will keep him interested and involved. He could entertain himself, but had to be supervised indoors since he liked dish towels and slippers when you weren't looking! He would be an outstanding agility dog with his three foot vertical! He would do well in a family with younger kids that are used to larger dogs or with a single adult that loves to play and spoil. Kermit needed a home without cats.

China Adopted January 23, 2005

While in rescue: China was a 2 yr old black/tan, long-haired, mostly German Shepherd. China had been transferred a couple times from shelters and had spent a lot of time in kennels. She was a very active and energetic female with a lot of love. She didn't care much for cats, however, kids and other dogs and people were all fine with her! She smiled and bounced. Jogging, agility, and lots of love would turn around her rough beginnings. She was gorgeous and the pictures just could not do her justice. She was petite and weighed around 40lbs.

Fiona Adopted January 22, 2005

While in rescue: Fiona was a 2-3 yr old black/tan, spayed, female German Shepherd Dog. She was used as a puppy mill breeding bitch for many years. Fiona was happy to now be spayed! Her tortured years are over. Fiona was untethered at a very rural farm and never ran away, showing the home-sense that we appreciate so much from German Shepherds. Her farm was kitty free, which was explained the first time she met our cats. She had a very high prey drive, and was a dedicated cat attacker. She needed a small animal free home. She was very particular about her canine company. After years of sharing, she was friends with a select few, but liked her space as a single dog. Fiona was very much a cuddly snuggle pup to humans. She loved attention and hopped around like a carefree puppy with a few snuggles from a beloved human.

Belle Adopted January 15, 2005

BellWhile in rescue: Belle had been estimated to be 2 years old by our veterinarian. She, unfortunately had been in season when they went to spay her, so she came home to wait it out and then would be spayed. She had her exam, vaccines, and AVID chip.

Shelly— Adopted January 15, 2005

While in rescue: Shelly was a 2-3 yr old female (spayed), black/red, German Shepherd Dog. She was a beautiful, very sweet, and well mannered dog. She had also made fast friends with her doggie pals and had done very well with children of all ages. She had some double dew claws on her rear legs, that we suggested having removed at some point to prevent tearing of the skin, but the rescue just didn't have the resources to spend on cosmetic surgery. This very well mannered, crate trained, housetrained girl was just waiting for a home. No really dramatic story to her life. She was just given up because her owners claimed to not have time for her.

Ashli— Adopted January 1, 2005

While in rescue: Ashlie was a Black /Tan, 6 month old, female-spayed German Shepherd. Ashlie's story is a surprising new one to rescue. Humans never cease to amaze us.Some previous owner wrote Ashlie's birthday and her puppy vaccine dates on an envelope and attached it to her collar and then let her loose to dump her. Lucky for her she avoided being hit by cars and trucks and happened to find a wonderful human in rescue who contacted purebred rescue.
