Central Illinois German Shepherd Dog Rescue

The following are dogs that were adopted from the Central Illinois German Shepherd Dog Rescue in 2004.

Simon—Adopted December 4, 2004

While in rescue: Simon was a 2 yr old, male-neutered, black/tan German Shepherd/Husky mix,. He was reserved and a laid back gentleman. Simon just liked to hang out. He was a people and dog watcher and seemed to soak up all the information of his surroundings. He would stand on his back legs, nose to nose with you and stare into your eyes. You just got the feeling he understood everything that was going on. The shelter he was at had a volunteer that really loved Simon very much, and Simon was running out of time. He wasn't a pure bred Shepherd, but to save someone's friend, he was Shepherd enough for us.

Big John—Adopted December 4, 2004

While in rescue: Big John is a 3 year old, black and tan, male, neutered German Shepherd and is a success of the Match a Pet program. He was rescued at Terra Haute and provided exceptional care and love by their staff. They contacted us for his rescue, and we knew of a family that was looking for a dog just like Big John.

Loki (renamed Ludwig)— Adopted November 13, 2004

Loki was a 11-12 month old, male, neutered black/tan German Shepherd Dog. He was smaller at 52 pounds. He was an owner give up and was transferred out of a shelter to escape euthanasia. He was a very sweet boy and got along with all the animals and the baby. He also did very well in his crate and was super-friendly in general. He was just looking for a loving home that wouldn't give him up as he got older and bigger.

Jasmine— Adopted October 30, 2004

While in rescue: Jasmine was a 7 mth old female-spayed Black/Tan. Jasmine was dumped by her previous owners at a vet where she met her own personal angels. Jasmine had lived her young puppyhood very sick. She was unable to hold down food and had chronic diarrhea and vomiting. Her previous owners never wanted to treat her, so she continued for months in that condition. One day, the kids brought her in to be euthanized for being sick. The vet offered to treat her if they relinquished her to the veterinary office. Thankfully those people did, and her terrible life took a turn for the better. Jasmine met another angel family who provided a loving home for her while the vet treated her and kept an eye on her progress. It turned out that she had pancreatitis and it took a lot of love and care to make her better. A couple months later she was able to hold down food and water and has been doing better ever since. She gained some weight onto her small, thin frame and was starting to look more like a normal happy puppy. She was very tiny and will probably always be a mini-German Shepherd due to the nutrition deficits at such a young age. It was still possible that she could have another growth spurt and surprise us all, but we all knew she will do much better in a home of her own. She needed all the special one-on-one spoiling and loving that she could handle to live a long and happy life after such a rough start. She was very playful with the other dogs and liked the cats. She was very happy go lucky and could wait to go to puppy school and hang out with friends and a new family! She was crate trained and did well, knew sit very well, but was still a high energy happy puppy.

Casey— Adopted September 28, 2004

While in rescue: Casey was a special dog that was at the Anderson Animal Shelter. He needed some extra care to deal with his separation anxiety. The Anderson Animal Shelter is "committed to a low-kill philosophy (100% adoption of adoptable animals)" so they proactively work with reputable rescue groups to find homes for the dogs in their care. Casey's adoptive family had filled out an application with the Central IL GSD Rescue and we were able to match him up with Casey at the Anderson Animal Shelter.

Casey was adopted via the "Match Program" directly from the Anderson Animal Shelter in South Elgin, IL

Jack — Adopted September 25, 2004

While in rescue: Jack was a 10 month old, male-neutered, black/tan, German Shepherd Dog. Jack was an adorable happy-go-lucky dog. He loved the baby, other dogs, and people. He was a very laid back guy, who appreciated a good sunbeam with the best of them, but still had the energy to play like a puppy.

Cece — Adopted September 25, 2004

While in rescue: Cece was a 7 month old, female, sable, spayed German Shepherd Dog. Beautiful. She was about as sweet as they come. She had been accused of being an escape artist, but we had yet to see her misbehave, other than jumping on us for hugs and kisses. She was an extremely human oriented dog and loved to be near her people. She was very loving and very submissive. She just lived for cuddles. She had gotten along with the other dogs very well and just was a sweetie. The only way we could see her escaping out of a pen was if someone left her outdoors and ignored her. She just lived for human companionship.

Savannah Jane (renamed Tina) — Adopted August 12, 2004

While in rescue: Savannah was a 5 year old doll, who loved her people and running around with her dog buddies. She had been left outdoors and bred in neglected conditions. This allowed flies to chew her ears down considerably from the stoic German Shepherd Radars into the rounded teddy bear ears she has today. They healed and were a little fuzzy, but she hoped a loving family could look past her fuzzy ears and see the adoring spirit inside of her. She was ready to go to the next available couch or bed, for long nights reading or watching TV and long days of scampering about with her own family to adore.

Lady — Adopted July 2004

While in rescue: Lady was a black/red plush coat, 2.5 year old, spayed, female German Shepherd Dog. She was extremely sweet female, very kissy and a lap dog. She had lived at a gas station for quite a while (not intentionally according to the gas attendants, she just hung out). Her beautiful coat had suffered a bit, but after several hours of grooming, she would recover beautifully.

Lady was rescued via the "Match Program" with specific intent to go to a wonderful waiting family searching for a GSD similar to her. When they met, it was an instant done deal, and she is headed to a marvelous new life of constant attention and spoiling. She couldn't be happier with the prospect and we were thrilled to provide the service to kind people choosing to be patient and kind and choose their new pet out of rescue, rather than the instant gratification of a pet store, puppymill, or backyard breeder.

Megan — Adopted July 2004

While in rescue: Megan was a 3 year old black/tan, spayed, female German Shepherd Dog that was very mellow.

Megan's family had come to visit one of Central IL GSD Rescue's other available dogs and none of them really fit what they are looking for. We offered them the "Match Program" and after speaking with them further, we located a homeless German Shepherd that had been tied to a tree and abandoned. This sweetheart (Megan) went from an uncertain future to a loving home with perfect accommodations because her new owners were loving enough to choose rescue, and patient enough to wait for a good match for their household.

Java Joe— Adopted on June 27, 2004

While in rescue: Java Joe was the brother of Delaney. He lived up to his caffeinated name as a high drive dog. He aimed to please and was very smart and responsive. He was a sweet and lovable bundle of energy.

Delaney— Adopted on June 27, 2004

While in rescue: Delaney was a 10 month old, spayed, black/tan, female German Shepherd Dog. Delaney had been left without medical care and tied to trees virtually her entire short life. She had heavy scarring on her neck from wearing a collar that was too small and being tied out. You should have seen her and her sister in the dog kennel. They were soooooo happy to romp and play with each other. We are sure it was hard to play when they were tethered to trees out of reach from each other. Delaney was very sweet and had an outstanding temperament. She had been good with kids, small dogs, and large dogs. She was curious about the cats, but just seemed interested. She was a little beauty queen.

Taylor— Adopted on June 2, 2004

While in rescue: Taylor was a 10 month old, spayed, black/tan, female German Shepherd Dog. Both Taylor and Delaney have been left without medical care and tied to trees virtually their entire short life. They have heavy scarring on their necks from wearing collars that were too small and being tied out. You should have seen them in the dog kennel. They were soooooo happy to romp and play with each other. We are sure it was hard to play when they were tethered to trees out of reach from each other. They were very sweet and had outstanding temperaments. They have been good with kids, small dogs, and large dogs. They were curious about the cats, but just seem interested.

Gracie— Adopted on May 12, 2004

While in rescue: Gracie was a 1 year old black/tan spayed, female German Shepherd Dog. She was a very sweet and loving little girl that wagged with her entire body. She wiggled and squirmed and liked to rub up right next to her human. She was a velcro dog-never going far. Gracie loved attention and hanging out. She got along with cats and dogs, children and adults. She had cowered at loud noises and her primary caretaker believed someone may have beaten her at some point, but all Gracie wanted out of life was lots of love. She kissed and hugged very well and looked forward to having her very own family to spoil and love. She was just the sweetest dog!

Zoe— Adopted on April 4, 2004

While in rescue: Zoe was the mommy of 4 Boxer/Shepherd mix babies . Their estimated date of birth was July 28th, 2003. Three were females and one was a male puppy. The babies were nice, clean and fat. Mommy had done a great job. Mommy had head to toe skin infections due most likely to the many fleas on her. She had no hair on her elbows and tail where she had large sores. The rest of her body had deep scratches, sores, and wounds from chewing and scratching. She hadn't had access to proper nutrition for a pregnant or nursing mommy and was extremely thin. She needed a lot of antibiotics, skin treatment, more flea treatment, and medicated baths for her sores. Despite these setbacks, she healed up nicely and found a loving home of her own.

While in rescue: Cody was a beautiful and sweet dog that was a pleasure to have in our home. He had a great personality and it was no surprise he found a new home quickly. He was wonderful around our baby and a good housedog.

Ricki (renamed Leebah)— Adopted on February 29, 2004

While in rescue: Ricki was a fawn and black, spayed, female, Boxer/Shepherd mix that was born July 29, 2003. She was the quietest of all four of Zoe's pups. Keep in mind they were all pups, so that was relative. She was sweet and lovable and wanted to be pampered with hugs and kisses. She was 27.5 lbs at her spay surgery and wouldl not be a large dog. These pups were truely the best of both worlds. They were smart, with lovely noses and nice tails, but had the happy go lucky personality of Boxers. They would do well in a busy household, with children, and would handle change well as long as their loving owner was always with them.

Miss Piggy— Adopted on February 26, 2004

While in rescue: Miss Piggy was a spayed fawn/black Boxer/German Shepherd mix that was born (7/29/03). She was named for being the biggest of the litter, but later was the smallest! The runt passed her by! Miss Piggy was very human oriented and outgoing and loved attention and cuddles. She also was food motivated and just loved playing with her siblings and anyone else who happened to be in the exercise area with her! These pups knew no enemies and thought everyone, including the cats, were potential friends. Their Boxer side shown in their desire to always walk on their back legs and hug you.

Jake— Adopted on February 9, 2004

While in rescue: Jake was a 4-5 year old, black/tan and sable, neutered male, German Shepherd Dog. He was fostered to avoid euthanasia. This guy's amazing personality had affected everyone who had met him. He was the sweetest, best behaved gentleman you could ever ask for! He got along well with other dogs and animals. He had been very good around the kids he met, and was very calm. He enjoyed lying around the house quietly watching television, or simply snoozing.

Malachi — Adopted on February 8, 2004

While in rescue: Malachi was a 4 1/2 yr old, black/tan, male, neutered, German Shepherd Dog. He was an owner give-up. His owner was moving to Florida and decided not to take Malachi with him. Malachi was purchased as a puppy and was kept as an outdoor dog. Malachi had gotten along well with the other female dogs and puppies, but didn't do as well around other male dogs that were the same size or larger. He seemed to do well with smaller dogs of either gender. He had been moderately interested in the cats, but hadn't chased them or shown any aggression towards them. Malachi had been around children from infant to 5 years old and done just fine. Like many dogs, he was scared of fireworks. He was very cuddly and lovable, was crate trained, and had been doing well with obedience. He very much enjoyed being an indoor dog.

Leila — Adopted on February 8, 2004

While in rescue: Leila was a 1.5 year old, black/tan, spayed, female, German Shepherd Dog. She was a beautiful young lady. This sweetheart just loved to play and snuggle! She would rather love on her human than eat her breakfast! She was just a cuddle bug. We love her picture here, because we were trying to catch a good picture and asked her to be a "pretty girl" -- she just rolled over for a belly scratch! So much for pet photography! Leila was rescued by a good Samaritan when she was found just running loose as a stray. She was advertised and no one claimed her. She was found to be heartworm positive and was treated by a veterinarian thanks to the very loving home of the people that saved her life.

Cassie — Adopted on January 10, 2004

While in rescue: Cassie was a beautiful and wonderful 6 year old black/tan, spayed, female German Shepherd Dog. She was mellow and cuddly and so very sweet, yet still playful and fun to hang out with. She was a super special pup that needed a great new home. She was a very loved member of her home, but a nasty neighbor placed her life at risk. Fearing for her, her family placed her in rescue to find a safer environment that would be just as loving. She was the perfect age and was a wonderful pet.
